Brien brings his huge range of music and humor – he’s trained formally as a vocalist and guitarist and cultivated an appealing performance style that blends easy listening, light rock and folk music, with a little bit of country and bluegrass tossed in just for fun. Brien is always a crowd favorite – come and be prepared to laugh at his corny jokes and enjoy his great music.

Katie Basden & Kelley Oakley Dec 17- 7:30p

Katie Basden is a country singer/songwriter from Durham, NC currently pursuing a career in Nashville, TN.  She is a student at Belmont University, also in Nashville, and plans to stay there after she graduates to continue making connections in the industry.  She’s been performing around her hometown since 16 years old, making her start at the Sacred Grounds Coffeehouse and continuing from there. She currently has two songs on iTunes entitled “Rearview Mirror” and “Goodbyes” which were recorded for the novel, The Mahogany Door written by Mark Boliek and has recently started recording her first solo EP which she hopes to release in September of 2011, called “The Gospel of a Southern Belle.”  Kelly is a singer/song-writer from right here in Durham, North Carolina. She sings a mixture of Country Gospel and New Country. Kelly is attending the Free Will Baptist Bible College in Nashville, TN, where she will major in music performance. Kelley’s first concert at Sacred grounds was a smash hit – she had invited Katie to join her and even without rehearsal their music blended beautifully. They will be home from school for Christmas break and will again pair up for an outstanding concert. Come for an early Christmas present!

Triangle Folk Ensemble Dec 10 – 7:30

TFE is a 9 member group of some of the areas finest musicians that comes together in December to perform a delightful program of holiday music. Get in the spirit of the season with the Triangle Folk Ensemble program brought to you by Doug Pratt - International Autoharp Contest Winner at Winfield and Mount Laurel. He took first place at the 2011 Fiddler’s Grove Contest.  (check out his website at www.hdouglaspratt.com). Christine Olsen, a well seasoned autoharpist, who recently entered competitive playing and place first at the 2011 Happy Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention. They are joined by Cindy Emens who has duoed at Sacred Grounds with Don Smith. Cindy is a vocalist who plays guitar and autoharp. The group brings a repetoire of traditional and contemporary holiday tunes with strong instrumentation, well rehearsed lead and harmony vocals and interesting arranging.

New Direction Dec 3 – 7:30p

Nov 26 – Closed for Thanksgiving

New Direction is a Bluegrass Gospel Band that will bring joy to all bluegrass fans. They have always been well received for their style and music selection – this show will have a Christmas theme you’ll really enjoy. Bobby Gales plays guitar and banjo, Charity Dixon Gales plays a bass guitar, Billy Mickel plays guitar and Greg Burris plays the mandolin. This group is comprised of fine musicians and singers – please come for this great Christmas concert.

 

String Peddlers Nov 19 – 7:30p

The String Peddlers is an acoustic band out of Raleigh, NC. composed of Stuart Gordon (sings and plays guitar, mandolin and harmonica), Bob Setzer (sings and plays harmonica, strumstick, mandolin and kalimba) and Bill Olding (sings and plays electric and acoustic guitars). They play an eclectic mix that could range from blues to reggae, from calypso to folk. You might hear mandolins, harmonicas, strumsticks, and even the occasional kalimba. Without missing a beat it could go from Johnny Cash, to Jimmy Reed, to the Melodians.

David has various musical interests including acoustic string music-Traditional-plus, bluegrass, Americana and contemporary, Guitar-acoustic & electric, mandolin, banjo, resophonics. songwriting, publishing and performance. He’s traveled all over the country, entertaining audiences with high energy delivery and powerful presence. He has toured or appeared with: Doc & Merle Watson, Norman & Nancy Blake, Lester Flatt & the Nashville Grass (w/ Marty Stuart), Earl Scruggs, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, John McEuen, John Hartford , Steve Martin, Jimmy Buffett, Tom Parks and others.

Todd Parrott & Amber Tomlinson Nov 5 @ 7:30

Todd is a Christian harmonica player, keyboardist and singer – if you haven’t heard a really good harmonica player perform you will be shocked at the great and varied sounds Todd can produce. His appearances are not merely “performances”, but are opportunities for those present to be blessed as they open their hearts through singing and music. Todd’s niece Amber is joining Todd (her 3rd appearance here) and has been most impressive – we’re working to bring her back for her own concert. Don’t miss this great night of music!
